Web3 gaming isn’t an incremental shift. It opens up a whole new era of possibilities for the gaming industry. Newer concepts such as the ability to independently “cash out” and own the assets players earned or purchased in games allows each game to become an economy of its own. In-game economics rewards create a new incentive model for players to perform. With blockchain technology, games meanwhile become more transparent and verifiable. For example, Immortal Game writes every chess move to blockchain, making it impossible for a player to cheat.
Through the DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) process, the gaming community has the choice to be more involved – and help steer the direction and, ultimately, the future of any given game. By allowing assets to be used outside the native environment via NFTs, the possibilities are endless. Third-party developers and their community can generate new content, which provides yet more value to the ecosystem.
We believe that Web3 gaming is still in its infancy. However, we have already seen its enormous potential. Traditional studios are just now starting to enter the space, and the quality of games is improving at an impressive rate.
We don’t yet know how the landscape will look in a few years’ time. But from where we’re seated, it’s hard not to be excited at the changes taking place.
